After releasing a self-produced EP at 17, Tasmanian raised, now Sydney based soul artist Amali Ward played Bluesfest, Southern Roots & national tours with Naturally 7 & The Bamboos, before recording debut album ‘Back In Time’. Before its release, it had already won 2 major gongs; The John Lennon Songwriting Contest (judged by Motown legend Lamont Dozier), & APRA’s Stephen Schwartz Songwriting Award, as part of its Professional Development Awards (previous winners have included Gotye). Amali was also invited to support Seal on his ‘Soul 2’ tour. Recorded in LA, produced by David Ryan Harris (John Mayer, India.Arie) & backed by most of Mayer’s touring band, ‘Back In Time’ was released in 2013, with the Sydney Morning Herald describing Amali as a “soulful singer with a Motown heart on her sleeve”, NineMSN’s Music Fix as a “soul queen”, and Drum Media describing closing track Black Dog as “wonderful.”. After a successful national tour, Amali is currently writing her second album.
